Knowledge sharing is the heart of what we strive for here at ForestHer NC, and who better to hear from than the lovely ladies who make up the heartwood of our organization: our Board. This new newsletter segment will feature one of them a month, and it will be a space held for them to tell you about themselves, what they find special about our forests, and why this community matters so much.

This month, we hear from the Executive Chair, Mackenzie Alexander:

As Executive Chair of ForestHer NC, I’m thrilled to share a look back at what we accomplished together in 2025—and what’s ahead for 2026! This past year was all about strengthening our organization, expanding programming, and creating more opportunities for our members to learn and connect.

We focused on building a strong board and governance structure, clarifying roles, and aligning around shared goals for our members. By streamlining committee responsibilities and focusing on project-based work, we were able to advance key initiatives efficiently and effectively. This approach allowed us to deliver meaningful programming while laying the foundation for sustainable growth.

Our programming in 2025 focused on hands-on learning, technical forestry skills, and community building. From workshops on habitat management and prescribed burns to webinars and peer learning opportunities, FHNC strives to create inclusive spaces where members feel confident managing their land and expanding their skills. We intentionally design programming to center women and gender-diverse participants while welcoming all who are passionate about forest stewardship. Your participation, questions, and enthusiasm help make these events a success and strengthen our shared impact across the state.

Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year with the theme: Getting to know your roots! We’re developing what it means to be a member of ForestHer NC as well as many more events coming your way. These initiatives will provide even more opportunities for learning, connection, and skill-building. Want to get involved with ForestHer, reach out and we will plug you in!

I am so grateful for our members, partners, and board—your enthusiasm and dedication make ForestHer NC the vibrant, supportive community it is. Here’s to another year of growth, connection, and stewardship in 2026!

Thank you for being a part of our ForestHer NC canopy,

Mackenzie
